• ‘AT THE TOP, BURJ KHALIFA’ JOURNEY FURTHER ENHANCED WITH UNIQUE PERSPECTIVES ON THE MAKING OF THE GLOBAL ICON

Dubai, UAE; October 14, 2014: At 555 metres (1,821 ft) high, Dubai today clinched its newest Guinness World Records title. And with it, Emaar Properties, the developer of Burj Khalifa, has unveiled a one-of-its-kind, must-experience journey for every individual to the highest man-made vantage point on earth.
For the first time, Emaar is opening doors for the public to such uncharted heights with the launch of the all-new ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY.’ Here, visitors can soak up unmatched views of the city and beyond, and feel the exhilarating air from an outdoor terrace and relax in a premium lounge.
The grand unveiling of ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ was made even more momentous with the adjudicators of the Guinness World Records officiating Dubai’s newest tourist attraction as the ‘Highest Observation Deck’ in the world. Burj Khalifa bagged the laurel from Canton Tower in Guangzhou, China, which held the record for its observation deck at 488 metres (1,601 ft) high.
The new honour adds to Burj Khalifa’s three existing Guinness World Records titles for the Tallest Building, the Tallest Man-made Structure on Land Ever and the Highest Restaurant from Ground Level for At.mosphere.
With the new launch, Emaar is also scaling up the visitor experience with two additional observation points in the global icon. Apart from ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’ on Level 124 that will continue to operate as normal, the tower now offers an additional ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ journey with two stops – at the observation floors on Level 148 and Level 125.
‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ at Level 148 is the crowning glory and the ‘hero’ level, where for the first time, Dubai residents and visitors can scale up 555 metres (1,821 ft), and step out to an outdoor terrace – the highest viewing point on earth in a building – which opens to mesmerising views of the city and beyond.
Ahmad Al Falasi, Executive Director – Property Management of Emaar Properties PJSC, said: “At the Top is today one of the world’s most compelling tourist attractions. With the introduction of ‘SKY’, we are scaling up the entire journey to Burj Khalifa by offering a truly premium experience that will be a lifetime’s memory for every visitor. We are doubly delighted to clinch the Guinness World Records title that adds to the glory of Burj Khalifa and enhances the reputation of Dubai.”
Talal Omar, Country Manager for the Middle East and North Africa for Guinness World Record, said: “Burj Khalifa has done it again, surprising the world with its iconic scale and the ongoing creative enhancements. The new Guinness World Records title is another feather in the cap for Dubai, a city that has now one of the fastest growing repertories of the world’s most fascinating achievements.”
The premium experience of ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ begins at the welcome reception on the lower ground floor of The Dubai Mall. Ticketholders will have an exclusive luxury lounge to relax with a Guest Ambassador treating them with dates and Arabic coffee. Guests will be visiting in groups and will be guided by a Guest Ambassador through the journey that entails no waiting periods or queues. They will take a dedicated elevator equipped with a captivating visual show as they ascent to Level 125 for a quick change over of elevator to continue their journey to Level 148.
Designed to aesthetic brilliance, ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ Level 148 has a premium lounge with five-star hospitality services. A team of guest ambassadors will introduce them to several pioneering experiences that integrate the latest in technology. An interactive life-size screen will enable them to discover iconic destinations in the city, while a retail boutique will showcase premium souvenirs. They will continue the journey with a stop-over at Level 125.
Level 125 serves as a tribute to Arab arts and culture. The entire level that is slickly designed will feature a Masharabiya motif as part of the décor’s central theme. The visitors can take in 360 degree views of the city with signature Viewfinders enabling them to explore the city in vivid details. ‘Dubai – A Falcon’s Eye View’ is a not-to-miss attraction at Level 125 that allows visitors to witness Dubai with an entirely unique perspective. They can go on a virtual tour across prominent destinations of Dubai, hovering above the city like a falcon.
The elevator journey back from ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa SKY’ pays tribute to Dubai with an excerpt of Emaar Chairman Mohamed Alabbar’s speech underlining Burj Khalifa as an illustration of UAE’s drive to excel. All visitors will also pass through a Photo Collection point where they can purchase their souvenir photographs.
The guests will continue their journey through an enhanced exit passageway at the ground level. Back on earth, a series of scaled models of Burj Khalifa allow guests to relive the historic construction process of the monument. The specially created models provide a detailed account of the key stages of development and the challenges involved. Dedicated stations with seating invite guests to listen to testimonials of the ‘People Behind Burj’, covering all aspects such as interiors, landscaping, design, architecture, maintenance and the always thrilling high levels cleaning process.
The addition of ‘SKY’ is complemented by significant enhancements to the current ‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’ journey. Every visitor to Burj Khalifa can now learn more about the inspiring story of the desert flower, Hymenocallis, which is the design inspiration for the tower with a vividly animated show. Newly composed music will set the tone for the journey, and Emirati television anchors Omar Butti and Ilham Al Hammadi will bring ‘News At the Top,’ which is a compilation of the record-breaking events hosted by Burj Khalifa. Visitors can witness Mission Impossible star Tom Cruise’s adventurous climb to the spire of Burj Khalifa as well as the world’s highest BASE jump from the tip of the spire.
‘At the Top, Burj Khalifa’ has already defined its credentials as one of Dubai’s most popular tourist attractions, having welcomed over 1.87 million visitors in 2013. Among the celebrities who have visited the attraction include: Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Nene; US actor Jesse Metcalfe; Australian actress Melissa George; English actor Warwick Davis; US singer Gloria Gaynor; football stars André Schürrle (Germany), Bader Saleh (UAE); Indian cricketer Harbajan Singh; and World Wrestling Entertainment’s Mick Foley and The MIZ.

The Dubai Mall, Emaar Properties' flagship shopping and entertainment destination, has become the world's most-visited destination for the third consecutive year, welcoming over 75 million visitors in 2013.

Following the impressive footfall of 54 million in 2011 and 65 million in 2012, The Dubai Mall recorded a 15 per cent growth in visitor numbers during 2013, with an average monthly footfall of 6.25 million.
The mall's 1,200 plus retail outlets recorded a 26 per cent rise in sales during 2013 compared to the previous year. More than 50 per cent* of all luxury goods sold in Dubai were purchased at the mall, with its dedicated Fashion Avenue hosting the world's largest collection of fashion brands under one roof.
The number of visitors significantly surpassed the number of shoppers at the world's other leading malls such as Mall of America and Bullring Birmingham, UK (40 million each); Intu Trafford Centre, UK (30 million); Part Dieu Lyon, France (29.4 million); and West Edmonton Mall, Canada (28 million).
Over 40 per cent of the visitors to the mall were tourists, reflecting the tourism demographic trends of the city, with a majority of the overseas visitors coming from Saudi Arabia and other GCC countries, China, India, Russia and Europe.
Last year, the mall cemented its position as one of the world's most sought-after high fashion destinations by hosting Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience, the largest fashion event of its kind in the Middle East, in partnership with Vogue Italia. The mall is currently spearheading a global fashion talent scout, to identify and nurture emerging and next-generation fashion designers.
Abdulla Lahej, Group Chief Executive Officer of Emaar Properties, said: "The record visitor arrival to The Dubai Mall in 2013 is a powerful statement that seals Dubai's reputation globally as a business and leisure hub. The socio-economic impact of the mall on the Emirate's economy is tremendous, having generated more than 25,000 jobs and consistently driving the growth of the city’s retail, leisure, and hospitality sectors – the core contributors to Dubai's GDP."
"Contributing significantly to Emaar's recurring revenues, thus adding value to our stakeholders, the mall's sustained success demonstrates the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to create a truly world-class city."
Nasser Rafi, Chief Executive Officer of Emaar Malls Group, said: "The surge in visitor arrivals and the growth in retail sales are indicators not just of the popularity of the mall but also of Dubai as a preferred destination for shopping and luxury lifestyle experiences. Having established Dubai as a global fashion capital, we are now further enhancing the fashion and lifestyle choices at the mall with the expansion of the Fashion Avenue by another 1 million sq ft, which will add 150 new brands to the mall."

The Dubai Mall meets all shopping requirements of visitors, from fashion wear to accessories, electronic appliances and home furnishing, to the latest communication gadgets and audio-visual choices, books, jewellery and much more.

Photograph public offences but do not publish on social media: Dubai Police Chief

Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah says photographs can be taken, but must be sent to the police

Major General Khamis Matar Al Muzainah said a decision to allow the public to be directly involved in supporting the emirate in its war on crime would be enforced this year as part of new initiatives for 2014 involving the launching of a police TV channel dedicated to educating the public on discipline on roads and other places.

Quoted by the Dubai-based Arabic language daily Al Bayan, Muzainah said police had already permitted the public to be involved in fighting crime through telephone calls, adding that police received more than 70,000 phone calls in 2013.

“Now we want to get the community to be involved in reporting traffic violations and security offences by allowing the people to take photographs and send them to the police. The decision will be enforced this year,” he said.

“But such photographs must not be published on social networks or any other sites that will lead to defamation of offenders. This new service is only intended to ensure a sort of self-control within the community and increase their sense of responsibility.

"The pictures will then be examined by the police to determine how serious and dangerous the offence is…in some cases, we will need personal information about the senders of those pictures so they could testify in court in case of a major and serious offence.”

Dubai to dazzle the world with iconic New Year's Eve Gala at Burj Khalifa

Dubai, UAE: Dubai is all set to dazzle the world once again with its iconic New Year's Eve Gala by Emaar Properties at Downtown Dubai.

An experience of a lifetime, the spectacular fireworks display at Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, is set to underscore its credentials as the most popular New Year's celebration across the globe, with millions of visitors expected to attend the festivities in Downtown Dubai.

Hosting over 1.7 million visitors from around the world last year - more than the number of visitors at New Year's galas in New York, London, and Sydney - the Downtown Dubai New Year's Eve Gala, this year, will be differentiated by ten unprecedented fireworks acts.

With several viewing points for visitors in Downtown Dubai, the New Year's celebration will also be streamed live on www.youtube.com/DowntownDubai, reaching millions of online audiences in real time. Emaar has joined forces with government entities across the Emirate to guarantee the celebration of a lifetime.

Emaar is also promoting active online engagement with the spectators encouraged to upload photographs and videos of the New Year's Eve celebrations on social networks, using the hashtag #BeThere.

Ahmad Al Matrooshi, Managing Director, Emaar Properties, said: "The New Year's Eve Gala at Burj Khalifa enjoys iconic status globally and underlines Dubai's reputation as the must-visit destination to usher in the New Year. Dubai's gala at Downtown Dubai will significantly add to the city's civic pride, boost the tourism, hospitality and retail sectors, and salute the city's win to host the World Expo 2020, with visitors expected from all over the world."

He added: "Emaar's New Year's celebration is a salute to the positivity, hope, and cheer that Dubai brings to the world. Through the gala, we are inviting the world to welcome the New Year in one of the most dynamic cities. This year, the fireworks display will be extra special with ten spectacular effects, some rising higher than 1 km, which not only salute our nation and the city, but also the design of Burj Khalifa."

In addition to several vantage-viewing galleries, the public can enjoy the fireworks from the central Burj Park, which will wear a festive ambience with a number of temporary kiosks for food & beverage and New Year merchandise. The event has already recorded strong buzz globally with robust advance booking for hotel rooms in Downtown Dubai.
Starting with a dramatic display of effects racing up to the pinnacle of Burj Khalifa, 828 metres high, the display will then salute the nation with the green, red, and white hues of the UAE National Flag. Flowers in the colours of the National Flag will cascade down the tower, before silver pearls will burst from the pinnacle of Burj Khalifa in a sparkling celebration of Dubai's success and awe-inspiring development. In a gesture of the warm welcome that Dubai extends to the world, the next act will witness thousands of amethysts launched in every direction and filling the sky.

Integrating shades of amber and with silver illumination flowing down the tower in gentle elegance, the next act is a tribute to Burj Khalifa and the global collaboration it has promoted. The other acts include elegant green and gold willow comets, silhouetting the vertical lines of the building; and a recreation of the design inspiration of the tower, with fireworks evolving like petals and wrapping it up the tower much like the Hymenocallis desert flower, which inspired the design of Burj Khalifa.

The grand finale will be a true masterpiece in fireworks display with every direction being lit up dramatically and a golden lattice being formed across the sky. Rainbow effects will fill all over Downtown Dubai as Dubai ushers in 2014.
Emaar is providing live satellite feeds of the New Year's Eve celebration to global audiences, with details of frequency and uplink to be provided shortly.

Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties sign joint venture to develop The Lagoons

Dubai, UAE; October 7, 2013: Dubai Holding and Emaar Properties PJSC today signed a joint venture agreement to develop The Lagoons, a magnificent waterfront city that will define the ambitious new face of Dubai's future, within Mohammed Bin Rashid City (MBR City).

A master-planned city for tomorrow's youth with state-of-the-art technology networks, the project is spread over an area of 6 million sq metres (over 1,482 acres). Over three times the size of Downtown Dubai, the integrated development creates a dynamic environment for tomorrow's world, and takes into account the rapidly evolving lifestyle aspirations of the tech-savvy and connected youth community.
Inspired and built by the banks of the Dubai Creek, the historic source of the city's development and the cradle of Dubai's heritage, this prestigious project will bridge modernity with tradition, by upholding the core values that have shaped Dubai as a cosmopolitan hub that is home to over 200 nationalities.
A Future City for Tomorrow's Youth
In a joint statement, Mohamed Alabbar, Chairman of Emaar Properties, and Ahmad Bin Byat, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding, said: "His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, constantly reminds us that Dubai has achieved less than 10 per cent of its development potential. Dubai has always been a forward-looking city, and today, as we enter our next phase of growth led by our youth, it is important that National Champion companies such as Dubai Holding and Emaar work jointly to launch projects that are important to boost the city's future development.
"As the city further underlines its credentials as a global hub by welcoming professionals and entrepreneurs from around the world, and led by the Dubai Tourism Vision to record 20 million visitors by the turn of the decade, it is important to continue to build our world-class infrastructure to meet future needs. The project, which will be a new catalyst for growth and create robust opportunities for commerce and entrepreneurship, will set new benchmarks in urban development, with its focus on the tech-savvy and connected youth population who are taking centrestage in driving Dubai's impressive growth.
"We are thus creating a vibrant destination that will not only address their lifestyle requirements of modern retail, entertainment and hospitality, but also connect them to their Arab heritage. This prestigious development fulfills His Highness Sheikh Mohammed's vision by creating a world-class infrastructure that will firmly establish Dubai as one of the Top 10 global cities by 2020. Truly world-class in design, it will be an inspiring work, play and live environment with several iconic developments, further driving the city's growth."
An Iconic New Skyline for Dubai
At the heart of the project is The Dubai Twin Towers, a mixed-use iconic development that defines a new skyline for the city, and is envisaged to join the rank of the world's most prestigious skyscrapers.
The fully integrated community brings a new aspirational lifestyle with a central business district, an entrepreneurial zone, cultural amenities, residences, premium and affordable luxury hotels, educational facilities, healthcare centres, a waterfront shopping mall and a wide range of leisure choices. All these key components of this world-class development are designed as inter-connected districts, around waterfronts and green boulevards.
A New City Centre
The project stretches from the banks of the Dubai Creek, through central parcels of land linked to Al Khail Road and across Ras Al Khor. It serves as a modern architectural continuum from Dubai Creek to the modern business and lifestyle centres of the city today.
The distinguishing feature of the development is its focus on creating distinctive neighbourhoods, which are pedestrian friendly. It will be supported by several sustainable transport modes including a direct link with Dubai Metro's Red and Green Lines, an eco-tram system, light monorail, and water taxis.
The sweeping waterfront of the project lined by retail, commercial and residential zones will be built around two central parks. The 'green' theme will further resonate in several environmental-friendly features including eco-resorts, water features, and gardens. A number of small marinas will also be developed across the waterfront, providing the entire spectrum of lifestyle choices for residents and visitors.

More space for women on Dubai Metro

RTA expands female compartment space for peak hour rides

Dubai: More space is being provided for female commuters of Dubai Metro with the rising demand and changing pattern of ridership, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced.

With the current women-only compartment being insufficient, RTA has moved to add half a cabin for women during peak hours. The total number of cars on the Metro is five, one of which is divided into a Gold compartment and a female compartment. The expansion will limit the general commuters to three and a half cabins.

“We do regular studies and we have a system of receiving complaints and feedback. We received several requests from female commuters for expanding the women only space on the Metro,” Ramadan Abdullah, Director of Metro operations at RTA’s Rail Agency, said.

Following the requests from commuters, he added, RTA carried out a survey to find out whether there is actually a need for expansion.

“We found out that during peak hours the women-only cabins are more congested when compared to the mixed cabins so we took the decision to expand the space for women during peak hours,” he explained.

The survey also found out that there has been a noticeable increase in the number of women using the Metro over the last couple of years.

“As more women and children are using the Metro now, we want to make sure the Metro trip is smoother and more comfortable for them, especially as this segment of Metro users need more privacy and security,” he added.

The extension service will be active from September 1 during peak hours from 7am to 9am and from 5pm to 8pm from Sunday to Thursday.

Abdullah said that the additional space would not only offer greater comfort to women but also easy movement of strollers and bags.

The additional spaces are clearly marked on all the trains and Metro security officers will be on hand to make sure there is no violation.

“I think this is an excellent move by RTA. This has been due for long as the ridership on the Metro has increased and during peak hours the female compartments are generally packed and more space would surely help,” said Nafia Rahman, a regular commuter.

However, expanding the women-only compartment on the Metro means taking away space from the general compartment, which is also cramped during peak hours.

“To me it doesn’t make sense. I understand the need for privacy and security of women but reducing the space from the general compartment will cause more problems for general commuters, who are cramped for space during peak hours,” said Dinesh Gor, who takes peak hour trains twice daily.

Currently, Dubai Metro transports around 400,000 commuters on both Red and Green lines daily. Catering to the growing demand, RTA has reduced the peak hour train frequency on the Red line to three minutes.

“Addressing the commuters’ concern we have reduced the peak hour train frequency to every three minutes. We have added more trains, with 46 trains running on the Red line alone during peak hours. This will ensure commuters spend less time waiting while also ensuring that trains are less cramped,” stated Abdullah.

The five-cabin Dubai Metro can accommodate around 650 passengers, with each cabin having a capacity of 130 passengers. Following the expansion the female compartment on each train will accommodate around 130 passengers, which is double the earlier number.

DUBAI: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has launched a 360-degree street-view imagery project of the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa.

The launch came as part of the “Street View Collections” project by Google, which aims to present global landmarks through its mapping applications which are accessible to more than 1 billion people around the world. The iconic Burj Khalifa will feature as a “Vertical City”, being the first skyscraper to be part of the project, according to a press release issued by the Government of Dubai Media Office.
Sheikh Mohammed praised the results of the project and the imagery collection that provides a stunning virtual tour of the Burj Khalifa to internet users around the world, providing them with an opportunity to visit this global landmark and experience the elegant details of the tower.
Shaikh Mohammad said, “Burj Khalifa is a landmark not only for the people of the UAE but for people from all over the world, and it is the right of everyone on this globe to get an opportunity to see and experience for themselves this global landmark. We do not look at Google as a commercial body but as a knowledge-based organisation that has played an active role in linking civilizations to people and cultures, and in the UAE we highly value the importance of such a role.”
Google has used the latest imaging systems to present 360-degree images of Burj Khalifa, which is the tallest building in the world. The virtual tour of Burj Khalifa can be experienced by visiting Google site maps at www.google.ae/streetview

Tall Claim: Dubai now has the world's tallest twisted tower

The Dh1 billion Infinity Tower in Dubai Marina, the world's tallest tower featuring a 90-degree twist, has been completed, according to its developer.

Cayan Investment and Development, a Saudi-based property development company, said it has received the Dubai Municipality’s certificate of completion and will be inaugurating the tower on Monday.
The 75-storey tower is approximately 310 metres high, which makes it the highest twisted tower in the entire world, company president Ahmed M Al Hatti said.
Dubai is already home to Burj Khalifa (828 metres), the world's tallest tower, Princess Tower (414 metres), the world's highest residential tower and JW Marriott Marquis (355 metres), the world's highest hotel.
Infinity Tower has been designed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill, the firm behind Burj Khalifa.
Thanks to its 90 degree curve from top to bottom, residents will have panoramic views of the Palm Jumeirah or Dubai Marina.
Although the tower will twist similar to the Turning Torso in Malmö, Sweden, which is a series of cantilevered plates rotated about a straight structure, Infinity Tower's has much larger floor plates that require the structure to be twisted as it raised from level to level. Each floor is rotated by 1.2 degrees to achieve the full 90-degree spiral, creating the shape of a helix.
The tower will have studios to penthouses, conference rooms, tennis courts, pools, gymnasium, a nursery and a spa.
A total of 68 units are listed for sale in propertyfinder.ae, with prices ranging between Dh1,400 and Dh2,000 per square feet.
Cayan has already handed over are La Residencia Del Mar, Dorrabay and The Jewels in Dubai Marina and Cayan Business Centre in Tecom.
Emporis data reveals that Dubai has 1,881 tall buildings of which 856 exist, 627 are planned, 355 under construction, 42 un-built and one demolished. Overall, there are 909 high-rises and 448 skyscrapers.
